Onglyza Lawsuits

Do You Have a Case? Speak to a Medical Litigation Attorney Today!

In 2009, the FDA approved Onglyza, a once-daily treatment for type 2 diabetes to be taken in combination with diet and exercise. Although the blockbuster diabetes drug was initially met with acclaim due to the growing need for diabetes treatments, it is now associated with several devastating side effects and an increased rate of death.

At Verhine & Verhine PLLC, we are committed to holding negligent corporations and tortfeasors responsible for their actions. If you or someone you know has suffered a serious health issue because of a drug or medical device, you may be able to file an injury claim or bring up a lawsuit in order to be compensated for medical bills, lost wages and pain and suffering. You can win what you rightfully deserve, but it’s important to first contact our medical litigation lawyer to discuss your case.

Risks Associated With Onglyza

Onglyza, known generically as Saxagliptin, works by increasing levels of natural substances called incretins, which help to control blood sugar by increasing insulin release, especially after a meal. Unfortunately, the medication rushed to market and comes with a number of side effects, some of which can be deadly.

Among the most commonly reported side effects are upper respiratory infections—including symptoms like a sore throat, coughing, and congestion—urinary tract infections, headaches, and joint pain. Research and reports from health care professionals have also discovered that much more serious side effects are possible.

One of these is pancreatitis, which is characterized by pain in the abdomen radiating to the back, nausea, and vomiting. Acute pancreatitis, the most dangerous kind, is known to occur after taking Onglyza, and without emergency treatment, the condition can be fatal. Onglyza is also known to increase edema, or fluid retention, which can contribute to congestive heart failure in patients. Although heart failure doesn’t cause sudden death like a heart attack, it eventually is fatal.

Why You Need a Medical Litigation Lawyer

Many people have taken Onglyza without knowing of the associated risks of pancreatic cancer and heart failure, and suffered harm as a result. At Verhine & Verhine PLLC, our medical litigation attorney can help you file a lawsuit against a drug manufacturer to recover compensation for pain and suffering, medical expenses, lost wages, and other economic and noneconomic losses. However, without a legal professional on your side, you may have a hard time collecting damages.
